ITV axes trio of shows: Bigheads, The Nightly Show and Fearless won’t be back

ITV has announced it won’t be bringing back a number of TV shows that “underperformed” last year.

Evening entertainment series The Nightly Show, drama Fearless and wacky game show Bigheads are all going.

A spokesperson for ITV said: “Some of our schedule did not perform as well as we had hoped, for example The Nightly Show, Fearless and Bigheads, so will not return in 2018.”

Created by Homeland and 24 writer, Patrick Harbinson, Fearless aired on ITV last summer.

The six-part drama followed Emma Banville played by actress Helen McCrory a human rights lawyer known for defending lost causes, as she sets out to prove the innocence of Kevin Russell, who was convicted for the murder of a schoolgirl, Linda Simms, 14 years earlier.

The Nightly Show was ITV’s attempt at recreating American late night talk shows, particularly James Corden’s successful Late Late Show.

It aired its first series every weeknight between February and April in 2017, with a different host each week – including David Walliams, Davina McCall and Bradley Walsh.

They interviewed celebrity guests, played games with the studio audience and took part in comedy sketches.

While The Nightly Show won’t be back, an ITV source told the Daily Mail in January that the channel hadn’t ruled out an alternative late night entertainment series.

They explained: “The station doesn’t have any plans to do The Nightly Show again but hasn’t ruled out doing something else, entertainment-wise, in a late-night slot at some point again, but if we did it wouldn’t be at 10pm.”

Meanwhile, in Bigheads hosted by Jason Manford, members of the public were transformed into the world’s most famous celebrities by donning giant heads. They included the likes of Simon Cowell, Mo Farah, Adele, Benedict Cumberbatch and Victoria Beckham plus William Shakespeare, Boris Johnson, Prince Charles, Queen Victoria and Donald Trump.

The Bigheads competed against each other in a series of massive celebrity-inspired challenges in a wacky physical game show.
