The Voice Kids returns for 2019 tonight – but how does it work and what’s the prize?
Here’s all you need to know about series 3, including some big changes.
Airing on Saturday nights on ITV at 8PM from June 8, The Voice Kids 2019 promises to be the biggest series yet.
This year there’s an updated line up of coaches as original Voice Kids stars will.i.am, Danny Jones and Pixie Lott return with new kid on the block, multi-platinum selling singer Jessie J joins the panel.
This is Jessie’s first time on The Voice Kids although she was previously a coach on the adult version.
“I love kids, I love to sing and I love to share all I know about singing and performing. The idea of combining those three things again on The Voice Kids is a dream come true,” said Jessie. “I am grateful to have been asked back.”
Meanwhile, Emma Willis is back presenting the show.
During the blind auditions, she’ll be backstage cheering on from the wings alongside the hopefuls’ founder fan club members – their friends and families.
How The Voice Kids works
This year the competition is opened up to duos for the first time. Both solo singers and double acts, aged seven to 14, are eligible to compete.
At the blind auditions, each coach has nine places on their teams to fill. Acts sing to the backs of the coaches, hoping at least one will like what they hear enough to turn.
If one coach turns, the contestant automatically joins that team. If more than one coach turns, it’s up to the act to pick which team to join.
At the end of each audition, regardless of whether they’ve won a place with will, Danny, Pixie or Jessie, all four coaches will turn to give the singers words of advice and encouragement.
After the blind auditions the coaching begins as the youngsters work hard in the hope of making it through The Battles. Each Battle will see three acts per team sing off for a place in the semi-final.
There are no steals for the coaches with three acts making it through to the semi-final on each time.
At the semi-final, those singers will be singing to impress their coaches for one last time as each coach selects who will make the final.
The Voice Kids prize
It’ll be up to viewers to ultimately pick the winner of The Voice Kids 2019 in a live final.
This year’s prize for The Voice Kids winner is a £30,000 bursary towards their musical education as well as a family holiday to Orlando courtesy of Universal Studios and Norwegian Air.
The Voice Kids airs at 8PM on Saturday nights on ITV.
