Former The Voice UK contestant Bill Downs sings at X Factor six chair challenge

Former The Voice UK contestant Bill Downs sings for a seat at X Factor’s six chair challenge tonight.

Bill is a 29-year-old stay-at-home dad and singer from Norwich.

The singer made it through to the penultimate stages of the BBC series back in 2012, just missing out on the live shows.

Bill was pitched against Max Milner in one epic battle performance that saw their coach Danny O’Donoghue have to decide between them.

Sending Max through to the live shows, Danny said at the time: “[Putting them two against each other] was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

Then in 2013, Bill performed for Simon Cowell at the Britain’s Got Talent auditions.

“I didn’t watch [The Voice] – like a lot of other people,” the BGT boss told Bill at the time, adding later: “We don’t have those silly battle rounds here.”

Sadly it wasn’t to be once again for Bill, but now he’s on The X Factor for a third shot on another show.

This evening is the second of three six chair challenge episodes, this time focused on Simon Cowell and the Groups and Nicole Scherzinger with the Overs.

As always, the acts have chosen their own song to sing for the panel, plus live audience at Wembley Arena.

And while everyone will offer up opinions, it’s down to the mentor of the category alone to decide who goes through.

“This is the dream, this is what I want to do,” says Bill before his Six Chair Challenge performance.

After singing Eva Cassidy’s Songbird, Simon comments: “I don’t love this song. This for me was going backwards although I do like you.”

However it’s Nicole who’s in charge – will Bill get a seat, and can he keep it?

The X Factor 2017 airs Saturday at 8:15PM on ITV.

The Six Chair Challenge then continues on Sunday night at 7PM.
