Even Strictly Come Dancing bosses are shocked by latest results

Strictly Come Dancing’s own team have been left stunned by the latest results.

Despite being a favourite to win, it was Aston Merrygold who was voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2017 last night.

As always, following the latest live performances and public vote, the judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ poll to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.

This weekend, that was popstar Aston Merrygold and his partner Janette Manrara; and singer Mollie King and her professional partner AJ Pritchard.

Both couples performed their routines again before the judges delivered their verdicts and it was a split decision.

Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas both voted to save Mollie while Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli saved Aston. As head judge, Shirley had the casting vote and so Mollie was saved and Aston went home.

The shock result not only stunned viewers and the celebs but also the show’s own team.

“Behind the scenes, the crew were left open-mouthed by the decision and feared it would spark a bad reaction from fans,” a source told The Sun newspaper. “Of course the public vote is a major factor but ultimately the judges make the final call.

“Some of the production team were totally horrified and even annoyed to see such a good dancer get the boot when there is so much more of the series left. It’s the biggest shock in the show’s history, without a doubt.”

Many viewers have been left angered by the result and even branded the show a ‘fix’.

“Absolute joke! The whole show, Debbie getting 40, Aston leaving. FIX FIX FIX #Strictly” one wrote on Twitter.

Another raged: “WHY HAS ASTON LEFT STRICTLY?!?!?!? HES ONE OF THE BEST IM FURIOUS, FIX FIX FIX #Strictly”

And a third opined: “#Strictly has serious questions to answer tonight. The best dancer in the series eliminated before Blackpool #WTF #fix”
