Truelove (Series 1, Episode 1)

This compelling drama, brought to you by the creators of the BAFTA Award-winning series The End of the F***ing World, features renowned actors Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters.

The story revolves around a group of long-time friends, led by Phil (played by Duncan) and Ken (portrayed by Peters), who make a solemn pact. They agree that to spare each other from a painful decline in old age, they would ensure a dignified end, a gesture of ‘Truelove’.

Phil, a former police officer with a notable career, finds retirement after 13 years to be dull and unfulfilling. Ken, on the other hand, is a former SAS member who feels equally adrift. Their paths cross again at a funeral of a mutual friend, where, amidst the emotions of the wake, they and their friends ponder over the concept of a dignified demise, valuing the quality of life over its length.

Phil and Ken, considering their unique skills, jokingly devise a plan: Ken could peacefully end their friends’ lives, while Phil could use her investigative expertise to ensure their deaths appear natural. It’s a twisted take on their former professions. However, this dark humour turns into a serious matter when their dear friend Tom (Karl Johnson) requests their help for this very purpose. The story continues to unfold with gripping twists and turns.
