Donel Mangena closed tonight’s blind auditions on The Voice UK but it was his gran everyone was talking about.
The Voice 2018 starts on ITV tonight with its first round of try outs.
As always on The Voice UK, the four coaches had their backs to the stage for the blind audition so can only base their decision to hit the button and spin their chair on what they hear.
Every artist must hold their nerve as each coach creates a team of talented artists using every trick in the book (including plenty of name dropping) to persuade the very best acts to join their team.
16-year-old student Donel from Southampton performed Cold Water by Major Lazer and Justin Bieber.
He got all four coaches to turn and after the performance and his friends and family flooded the stage in support.
Donel’s gran couldn’t hide her excitement after her grandson’s success, dancing across the stage.
Sir Tom Jones quipped to Donel: “I wouldn’t take her on stage with you because she’d steal the show from you.”
There was then an epic pitching battle as all four coaches competed to get Donel on their team.
And it was Will who won the fight for Donel, securing the teenager as the first act for his team this year.
Other acts that featured in tonight’s show included duo RYT are made up of Ryan (30) and Tania (24). Ryan is originally from Blackburn and Tania originally comes from Ipswich but they currently live together in London. Ryan is a music teacher while Tania works for an Estate Agents.
They performed Nizlopi’s JCB song. They had Jennifer, Olly and Tom spinning and went with Team Olly.
We also met 27-year-old student Lauren Bannon who performed Major Lazer’s Lean On. All four coaches turned and Lauren went with Olly.
And 26-year-old carpenter Jake Benson from London performed Julia Michaels’ Issues. Olly, Jennifer and Tom all turned. He joined Team Jennifer.
The Voice UK 2018’s blind auditions continue Saturday nights on ITV.
