Dancing On Ice’s Jason Gardiner welcomes same sex couples on the show

Jason Gardiner says he welcomes same sex couples on Dancing On Ice.

The ever critical ice judge says he’s all for same sex pairings on the ITV show.

However Jason said there were some logistics to overcome when it came to the lifts.

Speaking the Dancing On Ice launch event, Jason said: “I’m all for it, if people were open to it and I’m sure ITV would have no problem with embracing that.”

But he added: “Where it gets difficult is in terms of content, because what happens with the male female ratio is that generally speaking the male is taller than the female so therefore the female, slighter, will be able to be lifted.”

Jason explained: “When you’ve got two men generally about the same build or shape or height that’s where it starts to get difficult.”

“It’s difficult to press somebody your own size above your head, we would then find it would be a new way of having to present that and that’s a challenge but I would welcome it absolutely”.

Twelve new Dancing On Ice contestants were confirmed for 2019’s series earlier this year.

Those signed up include reality regular Gemma Collins, Grease star Didi Conn and X Factor singer Saara Aalton.

Soap stars Jane Danson, Richard Blackwood and Mark Little, cricketer Ryan Sidebottom and TV host Saira Khan will also all take to the ice.

Completing the Dancing On Ice line up are Westlife’s Brian McFadden, Love Island’s Wes Nelson, ex-Strictly pro dancer James Jordan and Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton.

Meanwhile, Jason returns to the Dancing On Ice judging panel together with Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and, back for his second series, Ashley Banjo.

Dancing On Ice 2019 will start on TV next Sunday, January 6 from 6PM on ITV, hosted by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
