Coronation Street’s Shayne Ward has revealed he had a “bit of a breakdown” after filming his final scenes.
Shayne will leave the ITV soap soon after three years on the cobbles.
And he has admitted saying goodbye proved quite emotional.
“I had a bit of a breakdown when I filmed my final scene,” Shayne told the Daily Star on Sunday. “It’s one of Corrie’s most shocking exits.”
Details of Shayne’s departure have yet to be revealed, with sources on set promising a “stunning” storyline.
“Everybody wants Shayne leaving to be a huge part of the show next year,” a source said when news of Shayne’s exit broke in 2017.
The insider added: “Nobody will see this coming. Viewers are going to be absolutely stunned.
“It’s going to be a blow for the fans — but also a massive TV moment.”
Meanwhile, Shayne recently joked he was looking forward to leaving Corrie after blaming on set catering for giving him a “dad bod”.
“I will miss it when I leave but it’s not done favours for the dad bod,” he told The Sun newspaper. “The canteen has a really great menu but then it also has really naughty food.
“Put it this way — it’s your choice, but then if you eat from the naughty menu you’ve got to make sure you don’t put weight on, which is what happened to me really.
“Fish and chips Friday is on every single week and they have lots of sweet food like hot chocolate fudge brownie or rhubarb and apple crumble.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
