Cheryl ‘parts ways from her record company as she works on new album’

Cheryl has reportedly parted ways from her record company ahead of her new album.

The former Girls Aloud singer is said to have left Polydor Records, who she released her first four records with.

Cheryl remains signed to its parent organisation Universal, reports The Sun, and is now looking for a new label to release her music.

“Cheryl is still signed to Universal but is exploring which label she will put music out with,” a source said today.

“There wasn’t anyone left at Polydor who worked with her in the past so it seemed the right time for a change,” they explained, with Cheryl’s last album out in 2014. “She is still contracted to Universal so now it’s a case of figuring out which label is the correct fit for the direction she is going in.”

According to the tabloid, Cheryl has been working with Girls Aloud’s hitmaker Miranda Cooper as well as producer Naughty Boy on songs for her new record.

“The music is at an exciting stage though and everyone is working towards releasing the album this autumn,” the insider added.

It was reported last month that Cheryl will promote her new music on The X Factor later this year, where she is rumoured to be returning as a judge.

However music insiders questioned whether the comeback would be a success.

A source claimed the rise in streaming could hurt Cheryl’s chart positions and suggested she had “left it way too long” to release new material.

As well as music and The X Factor, Cheryl is also reportedly working on a new TV show for BBC One.

BGT judge Alesha Dixon, Diversity dancer Jordan Banjo and Strictly Come Dancing pro Oti Mabuse are also said to be working on the project.
