The full Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2022 line up has been unveiled.
The Channel 4 show continues this weekend with a brand new series filmed in the Middle East.
As ever, the series will follow a group of famous faces who think they have what it takes to pass SAS Selection.
So who is taking on the challenge this year?
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2022 line up
Maisie Smith
Actress, 21, Essex
Maisie says: “You know what? I’d seen the show and I remember watching it thinking, ‘Wow. What a strong bunch of people.’ I really just wanted to put my mental and physical strength to the test. I’m very competitive. I’ve always loved pushing myself and seeing my limits. It’s the perfect challenge for me, is what I thought.”
Amber Gill
Love Island winner, 25, Newcastle
Amber says: “It provides experiences that you’re not going to get anywhere else, let’s be honest. I kind of wanted to just show that I can do whatever I put my mind to, that I can be tough. I think coming off a show like Love Island and being on Instagram, people have a certain expectation about me and I wanted to show that I’m more than that. That was what I was kind of thinking. You always get tied to these sorts of stereotypes about reality stars and I wanted to prove to everyone that I’m not just a bikini. There’s more to me than that.”
Jade Jones
Olympian, 29, Wales
Jade says: “I’d just lost my third Olympics going into it, so I wanted to figure myself out a little bit. Most people go on it to see for yourself if you’re a strong person. So I wanted to see how strong I was.”
AJ Pritchard
Strictly Come Dancing professional, 27, Stoke-on-Trent
AJ says: “That’s been the one TV show that I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to put myself in the most extreme circumstances and see fundamentally how I would deal with the stress, the pressure, everything that you can’t really appreciate unless you’re there. We sit and watch it at home going, “Well, I’ll be able to do that.” So let’s see if that’s true!”
Curtis Pritchard
Dancer and former Love Islander, 26, Stoke-on-Trent
Curtis says: “Well, to be fair, out of every show I’ve done, I’m going to say this was one of my biggest passion projects. Mainly because I’ve always been into pushing myself to the extreme, whether it’s through extreme sports or whether it’s just through doing different challenges that I’ve done in my past. And Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, let’s be honest, it’s pushing yourself to the utmost extreme, in the most extreme environment, in the most extreme cases possible to see if you cope with it. Plus, it’s all about seeing if you are strong enough and can come out the other side a stronger and better person or if you can come out on the other side at all, really!”
Ashley Cain
Former footballer, 31, Coventry
Ashley says: “Losing my daughter was the most difficult experience of my life. I think to combat trauma you need to step outside your comfort zone and see who you really are. There’s no better way to do that than on SAS Who Dares Wins, so when the opportunity came, I took it with both hands. I really wanted to find out who I was, so I wanted to see whether I could put my money where my mouth is. I said I was going to be strong for my daughter, and I was going to continue to fight for my daughter, I wanted to put that in action as soon as I possibly could.”
Jennifer Ellison
Actress, 39, Liverpool
Jennifer says: “I wanted to do it because I’d not done anything for so long. I’ve had this kind of break from what I grew up doing and love doing, and kind of lost my identity a little bit. So the opportunity came along and I just thought, ‘I’m going to grab it with both hands and see I can still do my stuff.’ It was more of a challenge for me personally, to see if I could test myself and kind of remember who I am and the fire I used to have inside of me.”
Calum Best
TV personality, 41, London
Calum says: “I’ve wanted to do this show since it started and finally the opportunity came! It’s the coolest, most intriguing, entertaining show on TV because it shows people being challenged in a way you never get to see. It looked terrifying but I’d been asking for it for so long, so bring it on! I’ve been through some challenges. I’ve had some mental growth, some personal growth, some physical growth. And if I can go on there and try to put all these things into action and check myself to see how far I’ve come or how much more needs to be done, then I’m going to jump on this opportunity.”
Fatima Whitbread
Olympian, 61, Essex
Fatima says: “It’s because I’m reaching the age now, I’m obviously 61, and as a young woman, I was always very adventurous. I always liked the rough and tumble of everything. I think that was because living in children’s homes for 14 years, I had what I call quite a mischievous side to me, where I was tough and had to survive. I’m not someone who’d sit down with a little Barbie doll, if I’d had a different upbringing, maybe I would’ve done. Sport was my saviour because that’s really where I excelled. And a sense of achievement was important to me. It gave me confidence and it gave me the ability to believe in myself. So doing SAS is really only a knock on from those days. I would’ve liked to have done it as a young Whitbread because I think I would’ve cracked it wide open, but as an older lady, I’d like to think I’ve flown the flag really well in representation for the older generation, the middle aged, it’s not just a young person’s game.”
Pete Wicks
TOWIE star, 33, Essex
Pete says: “I’ve done TV for eight years and there have only ever been two shows that I really wanted to do. One was Bear Grylls, which I did. And the other one was SAS: Who Dares Wins, purely because it’s something that regardless of it being a TV show I’d wanted to do anyway because when would you get an opportunity to do something like that? It’s just so different to anything I’ve done before. I’m fortunate to have a very pampered life, so to get the chance to test what you’re truly made of was an opportunity I just couldn’t turn down”
Ferne McCann
Reality TV star, 32, Essex
Ferne says: “It’s a show that I’ve watched ever since the beginning. And it’s always been one of those shows that I always thought I’d like to do but when it came round for me to actually say yes, when I had the conversations and I had an interview and all of that, it just felt like the right time in my life to be tested. I do really welcome a challenge. I get that itch every few years where I’m like, ‘Right, okay. What can I do now to step outside of my comfort zone?’ I had no expectations, but a lot of expectations at the same time, I knew it was going to be really tough, but I think until you’re in that environment, nothing can quite prepare you for how ridiculously tough it actually is.”
Dwain Chambers
Olympian, 44, London
Dwain says: “Well, to be honest with you, I had no idea what I was getting myself into! I’d seen bits of the show before but not much. Even when the opportunity presented itself to me, I still didn’t really spend much time watching it. I watched clips and I thought, ‘Okay, that looks easy.’ Boy, was I fooled! I wanted to take myself out of my comfort zone. My comfort zone is within the world of sport, and being an international athlete for so long, that’s all I’ve known. Although I’ve had brief episodes in TV shows and other sports, they’ve been brief. But this one was something totally different and I honestly just wanted to challenge myself and see if I could handle it.”
Shannon Courtenay
Boxer, 29, Hertfordshire
Shannon says: “I felt like it would kind of get across the real me. In my industry you only get to see me, mainly my character, come out on fight week. But that’s not really the true me. You get amped up, you’re wanting to fight, you’re full of adrenaline. I feel like the nation hasn’t really got to see the real me away from the ring. And if there’s any show that can actually break you down, reveal your true colours, it is Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.”
Jonathan Broom-Edwards
Paralympic high jumper, 34, Loughborough
Says Jonathan: “You know what, I was gunning for that show for about a year, actually. I’ve always watched it, always been intrigued by it and admired the people that were on it. I suppose one of the biggest things for me through my career has been getting to learn about my own mind. I started to realise the value of subjecting myself to discomfort in order to challenge myself and to challenge the weaknesses in my mind. I’m a bit of a masochist in some respects.”
