Comedian Nick Page won over the Britain’s Got Talent 2018 judges at the weekend – but it wasn’t his first time on TV.
The ex-estate agent has revealed how he used to be a presenter on BBC One.
Nick used to front Escape To The Country back in 2002 – but says he was “rubbish at it”.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I’d started doing comedy and was going for castings and because I was still working as an estate agent all of a sudden I went for a screen test for this new show Escape To The Country.
“They figured I’d be cheap cause they had no budget at all for the first few series.
“I worked out I was the lowest paid member of the crew.”
Nick appeared on Saturday’s BGT as a stand up comic.
“I’ve been doing it for 16 years,” he told the judges. “I’ve been living from gig to gig and having a laugh. But I’ve got married and we want o have a kids and so, it’s time to make a move and see if I’m good enough.”
Nick’s gags got a standing ovation and four yeses from the panel.
“You’re really clever and I love the fact you’re so self deprecating,” Amanda Holden said.
“I don’t have much choice” quipped Nick.
“I’m sure you’ve got a huge career and I hope this show propels you to that,” David Walliams added.
Other acts performing in the final BGT included the St Lawrence’s Choir, a group of 48 schoolchildren aged 8-11 years-old from Northern Ireland, the Spotlight Stage School from Birmingham and Futunity, a dance group who appeared dressed as zombies.
There was also a dancing dog (sort of) in the form of Dudley the Dancing Dog while Nick Page offered up some gags with his stand up routine.
Britain’s Got Talent 2018 returns for the live shows all this week at 7:30PM.
