Singing priest Father Ray Kelly has revealed hopes of duetting with Susan Boyle.
At the second round of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent auditions, we met Father Ray Kelly, a 64-year-old Parish Priest, from Oldcastle, Co. Meath in Ireland.
He said in the show: “I was singing at a wedding four years ago at home and it went viral on YouTube. The phone started ringing… you’ve got a thousand hits, two thousand hits… for a guy, 60 years of age, I didn’t know what was happening.”
In Saturday’s episode, Ray Kelly performed a touching cover of Everybody Hurts’ by R.E.M.
“I watch Britain’s Got Talent every year, I love the show. It offers you the opportunity to sing in front of the Royal Family,” Father Ray said. “I’m hoping I get the BGT audience on my side tonight.”
With four yeses, Father Ray Kelly was put through to the next round and a step closer to singing for the Queen.
Now he’s hoping to also sing alongside Britain’s Got Talent royalty.
Father Ray told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I love Susan Boyle and one of my dreams would be to do a duet with her and sing with her because she has such an amazing voice.
“Her talent was discovered late in life, like mine, so there’s that comparison.”
Recalling his audition as it aired on Saturday, he added: “I wasn’t expecting that reaction. When the four judges got up, and then the audition stood up, my God, I wasn’t expecting that.”
More singing acts at the weekend included Jenny Darren, a 68-year-old retiree from Birmingham, living in the Cotswolds. Jenny rocked out with ‘Highway to Hell’ by AC/DC to make the next round.
Plus, Andras Lovas, a 46-year-old from Hungary, performed a unique style of improvised ‘heart singing’.
Other acts this weekend included ‘silent comic’ Lost Voice Guy and a moving performance from dance group RISE.
Britain’s Got Talent 2018 airs Saturday nights on ITV.
