Brendan Cole reveals how to avoid the Strictly Come Dancing ‘curse’

Strictly Come Dancing pro Brendan Cole has revealed his tips to avoid the show’s ‘curse’.

Over the years, Strictly has become known for its supposed ‘curse’ which can ruin marriages and push other couples together.

Brendan, one of Strictly’s original pro performers, says it doesn’t need to be that way.

“I tell my partners, ‘Get your husband involved. Tell them to come to the studio’,” Brendan told the Daily Mirror. “It’s the same with my wife.

“As soon as there are moments of doubt… you’re spending more time with your partner than you are spending at home.”

Meanwhile, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Brendan said he understood how relationships could form in the training room.

“You’re in an environment, like any office environment, you’re naturally drawn to different people for whatever reason, it might be as a friend, it might be ‘I really like their energy’ or I like their humour,” Brendan explained. “And within that environment if there’s a spark of chemistry between that couple and they fall in love with the teacher, fall in love with the student…

“You’re going through this process that really does connect you.”

Discussing his most recent celebrity partner Charlotte Hawkins, Brendan said: “I’m glad to say Charlotte and I will be friends for life, she’s such a great girl and we had a lovely chemistry.

“Fortunately, we were both married and we didn’t run off into the sunset together – it’s one of those things.”

Meanwhile, The Sun newspaper reports that stars are worried about putting their relationships to the test on the series because of the ‘curse’.

“Strictly used to be show that no celebrity ever turned down. But the curse has changed all that,” a source said last week.

They added: “There is now a genuine concern that appearing on the show can negatively impact relationships.”

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in the autumn.
