Brendan Cole defends Charlotte Hawkins after her Strictly Come Dancing “dance disaster”

Brendan Cole has defended Charlotte Hawkins after her “complete dance disaster” on Strictly Come Dancing.

In Saturday evening’s second live show, Charlotte and pro partner Brendan Cole were dancing the Cha Cha to Sugar by Maroon 5.

Charlotte made a mistake early on and it led to “a few stumbles”, to quote Brendan.

The judges didn’t hold back with their criticisms as Bruno Tonioli said to Brendan: “You were dragging her from pillar to post. You were nearly sweeping the floor with her.”

And Craig Revel Horwood said: “A complete dance disaster darling. But at least there’s a positive, at least you won’t have to do that dance again.”

When it came to the scores, Craig awarded just 2, Darcey gave 4, Shirley awarded 3 and Bruno gave 3 for a total of 12 points.

It left the pair bottom of the leaderboard but they avoided the bottom two in Sunday’s results.

Taking to Twitter after the show, Brendan had a lot to say on the matter.

“It was definitely a tough night at the office & maybe the scores were just!” he began. “What… I object to is belittling someone who has worked hard and is clearly upset at the situation.

“I have no time for negativity when… someone is down! It was obvious that things hadn’t gone to plan and at that time you can be honest but constructively positive!

“This… can be humiliating at the best of times and laughing at another’s misfortune is disgusting and although Strictly is just an… Entertainment show, we invest time and emotion into it and therefore it matters to us who take part.

“We are not changing the world… but we do care.

“That’s all, rant over!”

Let’s hope things got a little smoother this weekend…

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday and Sunday night on BBC One.
