Big Narstie reveals why he was forced out of Great Celebrity Bake Off special

Big Narstie has revealed just why he was forced out of the Great British Bake Off’s Celebrity special.

Grime artist Big Narstie wasn’t able to complete the show earlier this year, forcing host Sandi Toksvig to step in and take over his place.

Big Narstie was one of four new celebs in the tent for the Great British Bake Off’s celebrity specials in 2019.

They were all taking part in support of Stand Up To Cancer, raising money to help fund vital cancer research.

In the third episode in the tent alongside Big Narstie were comedian Johnny Vegas, Olympian Katarina Johnson-Thompson, and Labour MP Jess Phillips.

Big Narstie tackled the first two challenges before Sandi’s co-host Noel Fielding announced: “There has been a development overnight.

“Unfortunately, Big Narstie can’t be with us today as he’s a little bit unwell, but he will be replaced by another baker. It’s a seamless swap, don’t worry.”

Now Big Narstie has revealed the “truth” behind what happened in an interview with the Radio Times.

“Truth be told, between TV and my music career, they’ve been working me like a prostitute,” he said this week. “So f***ing nine days with only 24 hours sleep…I f***ing collapsed, you get me?

“I went to hospital. That was a wake up that I really needed to slow down.

“I’m only a human being. I’m not a robot.”

In Big Narstie’s episode, Sandi took over, with Noel nicknamking her “Little Narstie”.

She said: “I haven’t cooked a sponge since domestic science O-level.”

“The thing that I really learnt today was to throw yourselves into it, give it a go, raise some money for Stand Up To Cancer and you have a lovely end product as well,” Sandi added.

The Great British Bake Off 2019 celebrity specials for Stand Up To Cancer aired on Channel 4 earlier this year.
