It’s been over a year since Aston Merrygold’s shock Strictly exit and he’s still not over it.
JLS singer Aston took part in Strictly last year and was one of the tips to win the series.
But he made a truly surprise exit half way through the competition after finding himself in the dance off with Mollie King.
Now reflecting on his departure, Aston has a bone to pick with Craig Revel Horwood.
Craig gave Aston just four marks for the Viennese Waltz on the weekend of his elimination, despite all other judges awarding a seven.
Aston reacted: “Craig gave me a four. Can he justify that? Not really. Was my routine bad enough that it matched someone’s that fell over?
“I think I got eight, seven, seven — something like that and there wasn’t really consistency there.
“Fair enough, he didn’t like the routine, but maybe think about the scoring.”
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, Aston also admitted his disappointment after learning of this year’s new Couple’s Choice twist.
It gave each couple the opportunity to perform one of three more contemporary dance styles, such as theatre, jazz or street.
Aston, who is back on Strictly for the Christmas special, said: “Couple’s Choice? Are you kidding me? I said to some of the execs, ‘Great to see you, but I’m fuming. Why didn’t you add Couple’s Choice last year?’
“We could have done stuff that Strictly has never seen before, 100 per cent.”
Alongside Series 15’s Aston Merrygold, on the Strictly Christmas line up includes Anita Rani (series 13), Ann Widdecombe (series 8), Caroline Flack (series 12), Jake Wood (series 12) and Michael Vaughan (series 10).
The Strictly Xmas special airs Christmas Day, 5:30PM on BBC One.
