Ant McPartlin has opened up on his drink drive arrest as he returns to Britain’s Got Talent.
Ant was charged with drink driving after a crash in London last Spring.
Shortly after he stepped down from TV work to seek treatment in rehab, missing the episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway, Britain’s Got Talent live shows and I’m A Celebrity.
After a year out of the spotlight, Ant returned to work this week, filming auditions for Britain’s Got Talent.
In an new interview with The Sun newspaper, Ant broke his silence about the past year and his arrest.
“I’ll still carry guilt around. I apologised to the passengers in the other vehicles immediately after and I said it on the steps of the court because I’m genuinely sorry,” he told the tabloid. “Anybody who was in a right frame of mind wouldn’t have done that.
“But there’s no excuse for it. There’s no excuse for drink-driving. I make no excuses for it now.”
The past year has also seen Ant split from his long-term wife, starting a new relationship which he says has “changed his life”.
“Anne-Marie [Ant’s new partner] honestly is the fundamental reason for the great change in my life,” he told the tabloid. “She’s been my rock. She’s a beautiful soul. We’re very happy.
“I’m in the best place I’ve been in my life, to be honest with you. It’s great.”
Ant reunited with Dec last Friday as the pair kicked off Britain’s Got Talent 2019 filming.
Speaking to the audience before auditions began at the London Palladium, Dec said: “We’ve got the judges back, the golden buzzer is back, and someone else is back. My co-host for the series, would you please welcome… Mr Ant McPartlin.”
Ant added: “Hello everyone. Oh god, I’m really really emotional now. I’ve missed you all. As for you (pointing at Dec) I’ve missed you.
“Thank you very much, what a warm welcome. What a great show to come back to, I’m thrilled, I’m over the moon. Shall we move on before I cry?”
Britain’s Got Talent will air on ITV later this year.
