Anne Hegerty has revealed she’s started having “fun” on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! as Rita Simons and Sair Khan discussed how their soap characters have stereotyped them.
Contestants often see the ITV reality show as a chance to show the public who they really are.
And during a creekside chat yesterday, Emily remarked how jungle life represents her better than her “glamorous” roles.
“This is the opposite of glamorous,” she said. “All my roles have been glamorous, and I’m not sitting here complaining, but it does not reflect my personality.”
Rita empathised with her, commenting: “People always get a shock when they meet me.
“They think I’m going to be stuck up or snobby and I’m so far away from any of those things.”
Sair then told how she gets compared to her Coronation Street alter ego Alya Nazir, who’s a fashion graduate.
“She’s always wearing nice clothes and hair and make up, apart from when she’s grieving for the people that have fallen,” she explained.
“It’s difficult for an audience not to stereotype you. For me people are always surprised that I’ve got a smile on my face because my character hardly ever cracks a smile.”
Soon Anne stopped by to join the trio, and Emily noted how viewers will have seen the real person behind her TV persona, The Governess.
“The public know you as this hard faced character in a TV show,” said the Inbetweeners actress.
“I feel like you’ve showed everybody that you are a soft, loving and caring woman.”
Having taken some time to get used to the Australian outback, The Chase star Anne revealed she’s now having fun thanks to the other celebs.
“I started out being feeble and pathetic,” she admitted. “The only thing that kept me here was my campmates.
“You are all so nice. I’ve been thinking in the last few days yes, this is starting to be fun.”
Shortly beforehand, Anne, who has Asperger’s syndrome, managed to smash her personal best by winning seven stars in the latest Bushtucker Trial.
I’m A Celebrity airs every night at 9.00pm on ITV.
