Alex Scott MBE confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing 2019 line up

Alex Scott MBE has been confirmed for the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 line up.

The brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing starts next month (September) on BBC One.

The BBC has been unveiling the names of this year’s celebrity contestants daily and today saw celebrity number twelve confirmed as Alex Scott MBE.

Alex is a sports pundit, presenter and former professional footballer.

Alex said: “I am absolutely buzzing to be signed up to Strictly. It’s the show I’ve always wanted to do and I can’t believe I’m finally going to be part of it. I’m super excited, but also terrified at the same time… The football pitch is a bit less glam than the ballroom, but I’m ready to try the sequins and dresses! Bring it on!”

The former Arsenal Captain is a well-regarded pundit for BBC and Sky Sports and a regular on BBC’s Match of the Day.

While playing for England, Alex travelled the world playing football, also representing Great Britain in the 2016 Olympics in Rio. When she retired in 2017, Alex was the second most capped England player with 140 appearances.

Since her retirement in 2018, Alex has begun a successful broadcasting career on both BBC and Sky Sports.

She joins Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing, who was the most recently confirmed celeb on the line up.

Jamie has appeared on Made In Chelsea since its second series in 2011 and has also featured on shows including Celebrity Great British Bake Off.

After announcing he was taking part on ITV’s Loose Women, Jamie said: “I am beyond thrilled to be asked to be on Strictly, the only person potentially more thrilled is my mother. I have finally become the son she hoped for!”

Also on the confirmed cast are World Table Tennis Paralympic champion Will Bayley MBE togtther with American singer, television host, radio DJ, and Drag Race star Michelle Visage.

The trio joined the already confirmed line up of Viscountess Emma Weymouth, CBBC presenter Karim Zeroua, BBC sports presenter Mike Bushell, soap star Catherine Tyldesley and YouTube vlogger Saffron Barker.

They’re joined by England international goalkeeper David James, comedian Chris Ramsey and EastEnders actress Emma Barton.

Rumoured celebs who are tipped to complete the cast them include TV legend Anneka Rice, Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin and Olympic rower James Cracknell.

Strictly Come Dancing will start on TV on BBC One in September.
