X Factor 2018 finalist Scarlett Lee has revealed she’s been the victim of vicious online trolls.
The 20-year-old is one of this year’s contestants in the live shows after being turned away at the Six Chair Challenge last year.
Although things have gone well for her on TV, Scarlett has had to put up with shocking abuse online.
Scarlett explained this week: “I had death threats and people saying my mum should never have given birth to me.
“People were saying I’m a fat person, just because I’m not size six. But Mariah Carey and Beyoncé aren’t skinny girls and look how successful they are!”
In an interview with OK! Magazine, Scarlett praised mentor Simon Cowell for helping build her confidence.
“People don’t realise he’s a genuine, normal person with a big heart of gold,” she said. “He cares so much about people. I’m sure his mum would have been so proud of him. Simon made us feel so at home in Malibu too.
“I didn’t once feel too embarrassed to ask to go to the toilet!”
Meanwhile, Scarlett shared big ambitions for her potential music career.
She explained: “I hope that I can be big enough to play Madison Square Garden. Wembley Arena will always hold a place in my heart because it was the first time I ever performed in front of thousands, but I think you should always want bigger things. When you achieve something that’s big for you, you must aim for something bigger and keep going.”
Joining Scarlett in The X Factor live shows this year in Simon’s Girls category are 19-year-old Bella Penfold from Essex, 16-year-old Molly Scott from County Durham and 25-year-old Shan from Croydon.
The X Factor 2018 live shows start Saturday and Sunday night on ITV.
