Robbie Williams has revealed just why he joined The X Factor 2018.
And the new judge made no secret of the fact that he “came for the money”, joking there were “millions of reasons” he signed up.
However Robbie said he was “staying for the show” in a new interview.
Speaking to Roman Kemp on This Morning, Robbie said: “It’s a weird question to be asked.
“People say you’re here for the competition and everyone at home is like ‘oh yeah, you’re here for the money’.
“And if you say you’re here for the money they say ‘how dare you!’ But if you say there’s millions of reasons, it’s a mixture of everything.”
He concluded: “I came for the money, I’m staying for the show.”
On signing up last month, Robbie said: “For nearly 30 years I’ve been touring. I’ve been wanting to branch out and The X Factor felt like the perfect vehicle. Ayda is my rock, she’s looked after me through thick and thin. I’m looking forward to getting started as a judge!”
Robbie is one of three new X Factor judges alongside wife Ayda Williams and One Direction star Louis Tomlinson.
Ayda said: “On a professional level I’ve auditioned for years so I know the highs and lows. I know what it takes to help people achieve their dreams. It’s all about the auditionees, it’s an organic process. The fact I get to work with Rob and against him is fantastic!”
Louis added: “The X Factor for me made a lot of sense. Development of artists is something I’ve been interested in for a long time.
“Having been on the show myself I know first-hand that the live shows are like nothing else you would experience. I’m looking forward to guiding auditonees through the process.”
They sit alongside Simon Cowell on the panel, with Sharon Osbourne joining them for the live shows later in the year.
The X Factor 2018 will start on ITV later this year.
