The Voice UK’s Sir Tom Jones takes aim X Factor’s “freaks”

Sir Tom Jones has taken a swipe at rival talent programmes for showcasing “freaks”.

The legendary performer is back as coach on The Voice UK this year as it continues on ITV after moving from the BBC for its sixth series.

Sir Tom had been axed by the BBC but ITV got him back on board for their version of show, this year alongside Will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson and Olly Murs.

Music legend Sir Tom said The Voice was different from other shows like The X Factor which saw “freaks” auditioning.

“It’s not like that,” Sir Tom explained. “And we’re not trying to make fools out of anybody.

“We’re not trying to, as with some shows, they’ll get people off the street, and you say, ‘You think you can sing? You can’t even sing’.

“The people that come on The Voice, when they come on to where we are, they’ve gone through the auditions.”

He continued: “They’ve already auditioned to get to where they are, they can all sing.

“There’s no freaks. We’re not trying to do that. We’re trying to help people.”

The Voice UK starts on ITV tonight at 8PM.
