Filming has started on series six of ITV drama Unforgotten starring Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sinéad Keenan.
A brand new run of six episodes have been confirmed following the end of series five last spring.
Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sinéad Keenan will both reprise their roles as DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan and DCI Jess James. Their characters have had a complex on-screen relationship that began with tension and conflict, but ultimately developed into a positive dynamic, promising an exciting new partnership for fans to look forward to.
Series six will once again follow the pair as they investigate more cold cases and unsolved crimes from the past, unravelling secrets and unearthing buried truths along the way.
Sinéad Keenan: said: “I am absolutely delighted to be stepping into the world of Unforgotten once more. To be involved with the incredible team at Mainstreet on yet another set of stellar scripts from Chris Lang, with the brilliant Andy Wilson at the helm is a real treat.
“And to get to work again with Sanjeev, Carolina, Jordan, Pippa, and Georgia is an absolute joy. To call it *work* is a total misnomer. I can’t wait to get started!”
Sanjeev Bhaskar added: “I’m humbled and excited to be back as Sunny Khan, bearing the backpack for series 6 of Unforgotten. Chris’s scripts, as ever, are intriguing, detailed and empathetic.
“Andy’s direction and the skill of Sinead and the cast make this a warm and creative experience that so much more than a job. Once again I feel lucky to be a part of it.”
Joining Sinéad and Sanjeev for this series are Victoria Hamilton (Cobra, His Dark Materials), MyAnna Buring (The Responder, The Witcher, The Salisbury Poisonings), acting newcomers Max Fairley and Elham Elas and legendary British actors Jan Francis and Damien Maloney with returning performances from Andrew Lancel (Bolan’s Shoes, Unforgotten, The Thief, His Wife and The Canoe) as Jess’s husband Steve and Kate Robbins (Unforgotten, The Couple Next Door, Death in Paradise) as her mother Kate.
The team is called into action when suspected human remains are found on Whitney Marsh, disrupting Jess and her husband Steve’s plans. Dr Balcombe’s analysis reveals the remains are recent, leading Jess and Sunny to search for more clues nearby.
The story also introduces several new characters: outspoken TV commentator Melinda Ricci in Ireland, autistic Martin ‘Marty’ Baines in Kent, Afghan Asif Syed preparing for his UK citizenship, and Juliet Cooper, a London University History Lecturer.
Though their lives are disparate, they share a connection to the case’s past, challenging Jess, Sunny, and their team to uncover the truth behind the murder.
Unforgotten, which first aired in 2015, was one of 2023’s most watched programmes on ITV.
Each of the new six episodes will be written by series creator Chris Lang who is also known for his work on Innocent, The Hookup Plan, Dark Heart, A Mother’s Son and the recently BAFTA nominated ITV drama The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.
Past series of Unforgotten are available to watch online now via ITVX.
