A studio audience and panel rank the performances while also trying to figure out who is behind the mask.
Following the final, here’s a recap of who’s been unmasked in the fourth series…
The Masked Singer UK 2023 contestants unmasked!
Ghost – Chris Kamara
In the opening episode of the series, Ghost became the first character to be unmasked as football pundit and presenter Chris Kamara.
Talking about taking part in the show Kammy said: “My grandkids, we’ll sit around together and they’ll have no idea. They love this show. They just sing ‘take it off’ and grandad’s going to turn around!”
He added: “I’m not the best at keeping secrets so I’m not sure what will shock them most, taking part in the show or keeping it a secret.”
Piece of Cake – Lulu
In the second episode of the series, Piece of Cake became the second character to be unmasked as singing legend Lulu.
Lulu said of taking part: “It’s adorable. I loved watching the show and my grandchildren love watching the show. They love it and I love it and that’s why I’m here, it’s just such a fun show.”
She added: “It was funny they [the panel] didn’t get me straight away, I thought they’d guess me straight away.”
Cat & Mouse – Martin Kemp & Shirlie Kemp
In the third episode, Cat & Mouse were officially unmasked as couple Martin Kemp & Shirlie Kemp.
After taking off their costumes, Martin said: “We loved it so much. You literally become possessed when you put the mask on.”
Asked if their son, Capital Breakfast DJ Roman Kemp knows that they have taken part, Shirlie replied: “No this is going to embarrass him. Most people say they are doing it for their kids.”
Martin added: “We’re doing it to embarrass them.”
Rubbish – Stephen Hendry
At the end of the fourth episode, Rubbish was unmasked as snooker champion Stephen Hendry.
Stephen said after being unmasked: “I love the show and always watch it. I always say it’s a guilty pleasure and great TV.”
He said of signing up: “[I wanted] to try something completely out of my comfort zone. I have had the opportunity to do other shows that would have put me in that same ‘uncomfortable’ position but being completely hidden made it so much easier for me to let loose and get my head around the challenge.”
Pigeon – Katherine Ryan
At the end of the fifth episode, Pigeon was unmasked as comedian and actress Katherine Ryan.
Katherine said: “The Masked Singer is one of very few shows that we can all thoroughly enjoy as a family. I love theatre and thought that even though I’m not a professional singer, I could have some fun and sell it on PERSONALITY while surprising my children with the reveal.”
She added: “You can’t tell my daughter anything because she’d spill it to her whole school so she’ll be finding out with everyone else. We watch the show together.”
Knitting – Claire Richards
At the end of the sixth episode, Knitting was unmasked as Steps star Claire Richards.
On taking part, Claire said: “I am a massive, massive fan of this show. I feel like a fan who has won a competition!…It’s been amazing and I’ve just loved it.”
And she added: “I thought I would be fine performing behind the mask but it turns out even when people can’t see my face I get SO nervous. I think I just always want to do a good job and being VERY hot inside my mask didn’t help at all!”
Otter – Daisy May Cooper
At the end of the sixth episode, Otter was unmasked as actress and writer Daisy May Cooper.
On taking part, Daisy said: “I loved every single second of it. I did this for my daughter Pip who is a massive fan of the show.”
“It’s the best job I’ve ever done but near the end I was absolutely exhausted,” she said of leaving, joking: “I was gutted to leave because I really fancied the Phoenix… So fit.”
Jacket Potato – Richie Sambora
In the seventh episode, Jacket Potato was unmasked as Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora.
Richie said of being on the show: “It was incredible – like James Bond! – to have to be so secretive but everyday I was able to show up and sing these amazing songs by songwriters and artists that I love so much.
“I hope everyone at home had as much fun with Jack Potato as I did, in my very first passport ever under ‘occupation’ I wrote ‘self employed entertainer’ and now that’s true!”
Jellyfish – Amber Riley
At the end of the seventh episode, Jellyfish was revealed as actress and singer Amber Riley.
“I thought it would be fun and I love singing and performing,” Amber said of signing up for the show. “I really tried to pick songs that people would not recognise my voice.”
She added: “I thought they were way off with the guesses, it was kind of funny to be honest. I KNEW Jonathan Ross would get me though.”
Fawn – Natalie Appleton
In the final, Fawn finished in third place and was revealed as All Saints star Natalie Appleton.
She said of signing up for the show: “I like a challenge. I love to dress up and I do love to sing, so this show was the perfect match for me.”
Discussing her Fawn outfit, Natalie added: “I thought Fawn was so sweet, I absolutely loved her. I couldn’t see through my mask very well so it actually helped calm my nerves as I couldn’t actually see the panel!”
Phoenix – Ricky Wilson
In the final, Phoenix finished in second place and was revealed as Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson.
He said of his Phoenix outfit: “At first I wanted to be something funny, like a spanner or a phone charger. Then I saw the sketches that they did for the costume and I was sold… As soon I got the head on I just knew who he was. It was like leaving school again and realising you could be the one you wanted to be.”
And Ricky, who says he signed up after watching Viking perform on a previous series, added: “The nerves were some of the most intense I’ve had in years. I just really didn’t want to let Phoenix down.”
Rhino – Charlie Simpson
Rhino won The Masked Singer 2023 and in the final was unmasked as Busted star Charlie Simpson.
He said: “It was amazing to make it into the final. The whole thing seems like a bit of a blur looking back. I never expected to win to be honest but I just wanted to give it my best. I had no idea who I was actually up against and didn’t really hear the other people sing as we were kept away from each other during filming.”
And Charlie confessed: “I was terrified. I know many people have said that being behind the mask makes them more confident but I have never really been a nervous performer. I love singing, so I feel as though I have always had the confidence to perform. The thing that terrified me was remembering the lyrics. It’s something I got really anxious about. I kept worrying that my mind would go blank and I would forget the lyrics as they were not songs I was used to singing.”
