ITV has confirmed a release date for series 2 of BAFTA-nominated comedy The Dry for ITVX.
Award-winning playwright and BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Nancy Harris (Dates) and acclaimed director Paddy Breathnach (Viva, Rosie) will return to helm the second season.
The Dry series 2 release date
The Dry series 2 will drop exclusively to watch online on ITVX from Thursday, 14 March 2024.
The episodes will air on TV on ITV1 at a later date.
For now, the first series is available to stream on ITVX now.
Who’s on the cast?
Roisin Gallagher will return as recovering alcoholic Shiv Sheridan. Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) joins the series as Finbar – Bernie’s new close companion – while Thommas Kane Byrne (Derry Girls) plays Billy, who is Ant’s new nemesis.
Could real love also finally be in the air for Shiv with the arrival of charming barista Alex, who is played by Sam Keeley (Kin)? Additional newcomers include Seán Doyle (Normal People), Helen Norton (Cracks) and Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club).
Returning to the cast are Ciarán Hinds as Tom, Pom Boyd as Bernie, Siobhán Cullen as Caroline, Moe Dunford as Jack, Adam Richardson as Ant and Emmanuel Okoye as Max.
The Dry spoilers
The plot of series two continues seven months after the first series, focusing on the Sheridans adapting to their new reality. Shiv has been sober, celibate, and financially stable for six months. Ant has maintained his job at the estate agency and his relationship with Max. Caroline, on the other hand, is compensating for lost time by engaging in numerous sexual encounters through Tinder.
At first glance, the family seems fairly settled. However, questions arise about the normality of three adults living with their parents. Are the Sheridans truly content with this arrangement, or are they just navigating a new form of dysfunction? Shiv, committed to her sobriety, aims to eliminate toxic elements from her life.
Yet, she faces a dilemma: what if the most significant threat to her stability is within her own family? The challenge of abstaining from alcohol is one thing, but can she distance herself from her family if necessary?
Nana Hughes, Head of Scripted Comedy at ITV said “We are thrilled to be collaborating once again with the extra talented and BAFTA nominated Nancy Harris, Element Pictures, Paddy and the team to return to the Sheridan household for the second season of The Dry, coming to ITVX in 2024.”
