Casting has been revealed for new BBC One sitcom The Cleaner.

The Cleaner is a new six-part series written by and starring Greg Davies.

The full cast announced will see Greg joined by Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown) as Sheila, David Mitchell (Upstart Crow, Back) as Terence Redford, Stephanie Cole (Still Open All Hours) as Vivien, Ruth Madeley (Years And Years) as Helena, Ruth Madeley (Years And Years) as Helena, Layton Williams (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie musical) as Hosea, and Jo Hartley (This Is England) as Maggie.

They’ll be joined by Donald Sumpter (Game Of Thrones), Shobu Kapoor (Four Weddings And A Funeral), Zita Sattar (Casualty), Georgie Glen (The Crown, Call The Midwife), Bill Skinner (Ted Lasso) and Esmonde Cole (Still So Awkward).

A teaser for the show shares: “Armed with chemicals, scrubbing brushes and cleaning rags, Wicky removes the gruesome mess at the scene of the crime.

“When carrying out his duties, he stumbles across the strangest of people, from the victim’s relatives, employers, neighbours and acquaintances to occasionally even the murderers themselves. And because he’s a sociable type, he sometimes gossips more than he cleans…”

The Cleaner airs Friday nights on BBC One at 9:30PM with the full series is available to watch online now via BBC iPlayer here.

Greg Davies said: “I’m thrilled that this remarkable collection of actors has agreed to appear next to me on screen. Scrubbing up blood in a hazmat suit in front of them will be a pleasure.”

Shane Allen, Commissioning Controller for BBC Comedy added: “Pinched myself when I saw all this comedy and acting royalty in one show.

“It’s all down to Greg’s well hewn scripts which take us in to different character worlds in surprising and funny ways each week, as Wicky has a transformative effect on those he comes across.

“The Cleaner delivers on BBC One’s unique commitment to make UK comedy for a mainstream audience.”

The show is based on the multi award winning long-running German comedy series Der Tatortreiniger (Crime Scene Cleaner) created by Ingrid Lausund.
