So-called ‘winter Love Island’ show Survival Of The Fittest has been dropped after just the one series.
The ITV2 reality game show saw a group of young, hot singles living together under the searing South African savannah sun as they took part in the ultimate battle of the sexes, in order to win a big cash prize.
Laura Whitmore hosted the show, made by the same team as Love Island, while Brennan Reece provided voice over.
It was the Girls’ team which won the first series, ending up sharing a prize pot of £40,000 in the final back in March.
The series won’t return next year, ITV2 has announced.
A spokesperson for the show said: “There are no current plans for a further series of Survival Of The Fittest.
“It was an ambitious and brilliantly produced show and we’d like to thank Laura, Brennan and all the team who worked on it.”
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, a source said of the decision: “It was a good show but naturally expensive and ambitious in its scale.
“Shooting it in South Africa inevitably comes with a cost and unfortunately execs at ITV couldn’t justify a second series with the poor viewing figures.
“But ITV have got some brilliant things lined up on ITV2 for next year.”
Survival Of The Fittest had seen Dani Dyer take part before being forced to leave just one week in due to an injury.
She went on to win Love Island’s latest series in the summer.
