Strictly’s Alexandra Burke reveals truth about Aston Merrygold rivalry

Strictly Come Dancing’s Alexandra Burke has spoken out about her ‘rivalry’ with Aston Merrygold.

The two singers previously competed against one another on The X Factor back in 2008.

In that competition, they both made the final but it was Alexandra who came on top, winning the show ahead of Aston’s boyband JLS.

So is Strictly going to be round two for the pair? According to Alexandra, not just yet.

She told It Takes Two that at least for the time being, the former rivals were actually BFFs.

Alexandra explained to host Zoe Ball that she and pro partner Gorka Marquez had struck up a close relationship with Aston and his pro partner Janette Manrara.

“There’s no rivalry because we’re all just amazing friends, we all help each other, we train together. The vibe is insane,” Alexandra said.

She added: “Every time that I’m struggling with something, they’ll help us. It’s all love, it really is.”

However Gorka suggested things may change as the competition heats up, remarking: “It might be different in a few weeks!”

So far both Alexandra and Aston have both won top marks from the panel, with Aston leading the scoreboard last week.

This Saturday night, Alexandra and Gorka will dance the Jive to Proud Mary by Tina Turner while Aston and Janette have the Quickstep to Mr Blue Sky by ELO.

Will either be able to top the scoreboard?

Strictly Come Dancing 2017 is back tonight live on BBC One from 6:45PM.
