Strictly Come Dancing 2018 line up: Katie Piper is the first CONFIRMED celebrity

The first official celebrity has been confirmed for the Strictly Come Dancing 2018 line up.

And it’s Katie Piper who is the first celebrity contestant officially to be announced for the brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Katie is a best-selling international author, inspirational speaker, TV presenter and charity campaigner. Katie made the decision to share her story in a remarkable film for the Cutting Edge strand on Channel 4 called Katie: My Beautiful Face, which was watched by over 3.5million viewers and nominated for Best Single Documentary at the Bafta Television Awards in 2010.

The news was revealed this morning on BBC Breakfast on BBC One.

Katie said: “I feel so privileged and excited to be part of my favourite show on TV. I already know how much of an amazing experience it will be for me and I can’t wait to show my girls some of my new dance moves.

“I’m nervous to put on my dancing shoes but can’t wait to learn a new skill and have the Strictly tan and makeover!”

The remaining celebrity contestants joining the new series will be announced in the coming days.

The next two will be confirmed later this evening (Monday, August 13) during The One Show.

Those rumoured to be joining Katie include a trio of popstars: Ex-Blue singer Lee Ryan, Pussycat Dolls performer Ashley Roberts and Steps singer Faye Tozer.

The Strictly 2018 cast is also set to see its first YouTuber with vlogger Joe Sugg, brother of fellow online celeb Zoella, set to take to the dancefloor.

More names said to have signed up for the cast are BBC News journalist Kate Silverton, This Morning’s Dr Ranj, Capital FM radio DJ and TV presenter Vick Hope.

Further rumoured celebrities Strictly Come Dancing bosses could sign this year include TV personality Anneka Rice, football pundit Chris Kamara and Radio DJ Maya Jama.

Strictly Come Dancing begins on BBC One in September with its pre-recorded launch show.
