SMTV reunion: Cat Deeley spills on plans for a comeback

SMTV with Ant and Dec and Cat Deeley is all set for a 2018 reunion show.

The Saturday morning kids TV series was a huge show in the 90s and early 00s, starring and the Geordie duo alongside Cat.

The wacky programme saw the trio involved in ridiculous games and sketches, such as Friends parody C.H.U.M.S and the always brilliant Wonkey Donkey.

2018 will mark 20 years since the very first show and and we’re set see it back – albeit for just one Saturday only.

“It’s insane. It’s amazing how it sticks in people’s minds,” Cat said this week.

She told Star magazine of the plans so far: “We’ve talked about it and we want to make it happen. It’s just the thing of getting everybody in the same place at the same time.

“We want it to be a day when everybody has a party, Get up early, drink bloody Marys and mimosas in their pyjamas while they watch us do the things they used to watch us do in their childhood. Fingers crossed!”

Earlier this year, Ant and Dec confirmed that ITV had given the idea a green light on paper.

“We’ve had discussions about it, and it looks like it’s gonna go ahead – not this September, but next September,” Dec said at the BAFTA TV Awards.

Ant confirmed: “Next August/September. We can’t have the same studios unfortunately but we’re getting the team back together and we’re gonna have a bit of fun!”

He continued: “ITV have just agreed.

“We’ll get the team back together and have a bit of fun. Cat Deeley said yes.”

SMTV first aired on August 29, 1998 with Ant and Dec first announcing plans for a reunion show earlier this year.

Ant explained at the time: “We were talking to somebody about this recently because it’s twenty years since the launch of SM:tv next year.

“So, we were saying whether we could do an anniversary special or something, and we got carried away with the idea.”

He told the Metro newspaper: “If we did it a one off, it would be on at 9.25am, with C.H.U.M.S and all that, and get Cat back!”
