Why Tess Daly will NEVER do Strictly Come Dancing herself

Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly says she'll never compete in the show herself.

The TV host has been fronting the BBC one series for over a decade now, but has ruled out ever taking to the dancefloor.

She told the Daily Express newspaper: “Could I do it? Absolutely not. I’d be petrified. In my dreams I’d like to learn to dance like they do. You might occasionally find me prancing around my kitchen in an embarrassing fashion."

Tess confessed: “My kids will have their heads in their hands saying, ‘Mum, stop.’ Especially my teenager Phoebe as anything I do is potentially embarrassing at this stage.”

Tess went on to praise her co-host Claudia Winkleman. The pair have been fronting the show since 2014 when the late Sir Bruce Forsyth stepped down.

“Our lives mimic each other’s in some ways," Tess explained. We’re both mothers bringing up families. We have the same concerns, juggling family commitments. We enjoy our jobs. There’s a lot of common ground and it feels great.

She added: “It feels great to be two girls standing side by side. It’s empowering. We’re mates and we laugh about how we can almost communicate telepathically. I can look at her and say something without actually saying it.”

Strictly Come Dancing will return with Tess and Daly in charge later this autumn.

It'll be the show's 16th series following another record breaking year in 2017.

Strictly had over 13 million viewers for its final in December, the second most watched show of the previous 12 months. Blue Planet 2 was Number 1 with 14 million tuning in.
