Olly Murs reveals why he switched from X Factor to The Voice UK

Olly Murs has revealed his reasons for signing up to The Voice UK 2018.

The former X Factor finalist and host is joining the rival singing series as a coach alongside Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Jennifer Hudson.

Olly said previously: “I’m absolutely buzzing about being a coach on The Voice UK and can’t wait to sit in the big red chair alongside will, Jennifer and Tom. I’m excited to mentor new artists and without doubt, I’m in it to WIN!”

Now speaking about switching shows, Olly has claimed he felt ‘ignored’ during his time as a present on The X Factor.

“One of the most frustrating things for me on X Factor was any time I was trying to mentor or speak to the contestants, the guys didn’t really care,” he said.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Olly went on to comment on claims that Simon Cowell was ‘unhappy’ with the news.

“I haven’t heard from Simon or spoken to him, so if he’s upset and he wants to call me, then call me,” Olly said. “The fact is I took this position on The Voice because it wasn’t about me being a presenter.”

The singer, who was runner up to Joe McElderry on The X Factor in 2009 went on: “What sold this show to me was that I was given the chance to be me as an artist.

“I’ve learnt so much over the past eight or nine years. I’m not just doing this for the money or s**ts and giggles.”

The Voice UK will start on TV in the new year.
