Madonna’s rumoured performance on the Eurovision 2019 final appears to be in doubt.
The multi award-winning singer was reported to be singing a two-song set in Israel later this weekend.
It had been claimed that Madonna could be getting as much as $1 million for the performance.
However with days to go until Saturday’s show, Madonna has yet to officially sign a contract.
Eurovision’s executive supervisor Jon Ola Sand said this week: “The European Broadcasting Union has never confirmed Madonna as an act.”
He added (via BBC News): “If we do not have a signed contract she cannot perform on our stage.”
Explaining the current status of the performance, he went on: “We are in a situation now that is a bit strange. We have an artist who would like to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, and who we would love to welcome on that stage. But for that we need to have the framework secured.
“We are negotiating now, in the final stage of that – but if there is no signed contract this week, she will not be on the stage.”
Past interval acts on Eurovision have included Justin Timberlake and Aqua.
Michael Rice was chosen to represent the UK at Eurovision 2019 earlier this year.
He is no stranger to singing talent shows: Michael previously auditioned for The X Factor in 2014 and last year became the first winner of BBC One’s singing show All Together Now.
During BBC’s You Decide show, Michael and his song Bigger Than Us, written by Laurell Barker, Anna-Klara Folin, John Lundvik and Jonas Thander, were voted for by viewers to head to Israel.
The 64th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Tel Aviv on Saturday, May 18.
The show will air live on BBC One from 8PM, with commentary from Graham Norton while Rylan Clark-Neal will be the UK’s results spokesperson.
Netherlands’ entry is the current favourite to win with the UK given a 125/1 outsider shot at glory.
