Love Island mystery over Sherif Lanre’s sudden exit from the villa

Why did Sherif leave Love Island?

Sherif Lanre left Love Island 2019 in last night’s show but no one seems to know why.

It was confirmed by Love Island bosses on Tuesday that Sherif had “mutually agreed” with producers to leave the show.

A spokesperson for Love Island said that Sherif had broken the rules but did not reveal exactly what happened.

Tuesday’s episode saw Sherif’s departure mentioned only in passing.

Voiceover Iain Stirling stated simply: “Earlier, following discussions with the producers, Sherif left the villa. But for the other islanders it’s another day in paradise.”

Neither footage of Sherif’s exit nor the reaction from the Islanders was shown.

While why Sherif left has not been confirmed, insiders have rubbished Twitter rumours he was involved in a fight with a fellow Islander.

Viewers have been left rather unimpressed after being kept in the dark.

On Twitter last night, one raged: “’Sherif has left the villa’ IS THAT ALL WERE GONNA GET #loveIsland”

And former Love Island Dom Fever commented: “Sherif leaving the villa is the most exciting thing to happen and we don’t know anything about it ??‍♂️ #loveisland”

Ahead of Tuesday’s show, sources described Sherif’s rule break as a “silly mistake”.

In a short statement issued yesterday afternoon, Sherif himself blamed his exit on “a case of poor judgement.”

“In a case of poor judgement I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa,” he said. “I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.”

Sherif added: “I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside.”

20-year-old Sherif from London joined the Love Island villa on Day 1 and had coupled up with Anna Vakili before his departure.

Anna remains in the villa and is now single ahead of the latest recoupling.

Love Island 2019 continues nightly on ITV2 at 9PM.

On Sunday nights, spin-off show Aftersun airs at 10PM with Caroline Flack.
