Love Island cast to be ‘banned from smoking inside the villa’

The Love Island 2018 cast will reportedly be banned from smoking inside the villa this year.

Last year Love Island received more complaints about smoking than its sex scenes.

The couples seemed to be particularly bad with the dirty habit and it did not go unnoticed by fans.

Earlier this year, the Action on Smoking and Health (Ash) and the UK Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies called out shows like Love Island for encouraging smoking amongst teenagers.

Deborah Arnott, the chief executive of Ash, said: “Ofcom and the BBFC, which regulate these sectors, need to take the necessary steps to warn parents of the risks and protect our children from the harmful effects of tobacco imagery.”

Now it seems ITV will be taking action.

The Sun reports that for 2018, smoking will be banned in the villa and garden.

Instead, much like Big Brother, a special smoking area will be provided.

Any Islanders who want to light up will have to make their way to the bus-stop style enclosure away from the villa.

“Last year there were more viewer complaints about the amount of smoking than anything else,” a source said. “It did feel like someone had a fag in their hand constantly last series, so hopefully viewers will notice the difference.”

The new series of Love Island will start soon on ITV2.

The channel hasn’t yet announced the exact Love Island 2018 air date – but Caroline Flack has confirmed it’ll return at the start of June.

Alongside Caroline returning as host for a third year, Iain Stirling will once again narrate.
