Louis Walsh has taken a swipe at The Voice UK after Olly Murs signed up for the show.
ITV confirmed on Wednesday that Olly would be joining will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Jennifer Hudson on next year’s show, with Emma Willis returning to host.
Former X Factor finalist Olly – who has notched up four UK No.1 albums and four No.1 singles – will climb into his red chair for the first time this weekend when the Blind auditions kick off in Salford.
His most recent album 24 Hrs hit the No.1 spot last November while this year he has played two consecutive tours selling in excess of 600,000 tickets.
Olly said: “I’m absolutely buzzing about being a coach on The Voice UK and can’t wait to sit in the big red chair alongside will, Jennifer and Tom. I’m excited to mentor new artists and without doubt, I’m in it to WIN!”
Reacting to the news, X Factor judge Louis took the opportunity to get a swipe in at The Voice – and Olly as well.
“Has he got a Voice?” he joked to the Daily Mirror newspaper. “It’s a job, it’s a gig.
“Good for him. He’s a great hustler. He’s done very well for himself.”
Louis added: “It won’t be as good as The X Factor and it never will be.
“They’ve never had a hit.”
To be fair, it’s hard to argue against Louis in this case…
The Voice UK begins filming its latest Blind Auditions next week, with the new series expected to hit our screens in January on ITV.
Meanwhile, The X Factor will return this Saturday and Sunday night on ITV.
