ITV has confirmed there will be a second series of Liar coming to TV.
The original six-part thriller, which concluded in October, told the story of a night that changes the lives of Laura Nielson (Joanne Froggatt) and Andrew Earlham (Ioan Gruffudd) forever.
In the show, Joanne Froggatt plays Laura, a smart and dedicated teacher, not long out of a relationship and unsure about getting back on the dating scene. Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd) is a renowned surgeon whose son is a pupil at Laura’s school.
ITV’s highest rated new drama of the year, the final episode ended in a nail-biting climax as viewers were left reeling at the discovery of Andrew Earlham’s murdered body.
The second series is already in the works – but it’ll be a while before its on TV.
Series 2 will begin filming in January 2019 and will focus on who murdered Andrew Earlham.
Joanne Froggatt and Ioan Gruffudd will both return for the new series, which will be written once again by Jack Williams and Harry Williams of Two Brothers Pictures.
ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill, has commissioned the new series.
Commented Polly Hill: “Liar has gripped the nation over the last six weeks and we’re delighted both Joanne and Ioan will return to play Laura and Andrew. Jack and Harry Williams are incredible storytellers and part two of Liar will have the audience equally gripped, as we find out who killed Andrew Earlham.”
Jack and Harry Williams added: “We always hoped this story would return for its final chapter, and we can’t wait to be reunited with the brilliant Joanne and Ioan”.
