Unbeatable: How Jason Manford’s new BBC game show works

Jason Manford is hosting a new BBC One game show called Unbeatable – here’s all you need to know.

Jason is set to present the new game show format which starts on TV on Monday, 10 May at 2:15PM on BBC One and continues weekdays.

The BBC say of the show: “In this quiz, the four contestants can always give an answer – but can they give the ‘Unbeatable’ answer and streak ahead of the competition to win a cash prize?

“This knockout competition is full of fun knowledge and easy to play along for viewers at home. Contestants and viewers will soon see just how ‘unbeatable’ they are…”

In each episode, four opponents play solo and battle rounds in which they face a question and pick from a board of six rankable answers.

They can play it safe and earn £100 each time their chosen answer beats another on the board. Or, if they think they’ve picked the best answer, they can take a risk and hit their Unbeatable button. They’ll bank £1,000 if they’re right – but nothing if they are wrong.

After three rounds, just one contestant remains. They’ll face the final, where they could double their bank if they back their own knowledge and prove themselves Unbeatable.

“I know how important daytime quizzes are for a lot of people,” Jason said. “I used to sit with my Nana Manford and mum watching them, they keep the brain going, they’re a chuckle and I’m really looking forward to being a part of this exciting brand new one.

“The great thing about Unbeatable is you don’t even need to know the actual answer to appear clever.

“I feel like this is the quiz show I’ve been waiting for my whole life.”

Nick Mather, Creative Director of producers Possessed, said: “Unbeatable sees players pit their answers against one another in battles that test their knowledge and ultimately the courage of their convictions. Do they believe they have the Unbeatable answer?

“You can never predict what will happen and yet Jason Manford, always has a brilliant off-the-cuff joke up his sleeve. Unbeatable game and Unbeatable host!”

It’s not Jason’s first time in charge of a game show, previously hosting First & Last which aired in 2020.

It saw participants given one simple rule: Don’t come first or last in any game. If they do, they will be eliminated.

Eleven contestants started each show and competed across a range of five rounds that ended with one of them walking away with up to £10,000. Six episodes aired in the first series with the BBC yet to confirm a second.
