ITV has suspended airing and filming The Jeremy Kyle Show following the death of a guest after filming.
The day time series typically airs from 9:25AM weekdays on ITV but today’s scheduled show was cancelled.
A repeat of Dickinson’s Real Deal aired instead.
In a statement released this morning, ITV said they had suspended The Jeremy Kyle Show until further notice to review the episode.
A spokesperson for the channel said: “Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in and our thoughts are with their family and friends.
“ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured.
“Given the seriousness of this event, ITV has also decided to suspend both filming and broadcasting of The Jeremy Kyle Show with immediate effect in order to give it time to conduct a review of this episode of the show.”
Together with today’s episode, past episodes have been removed from ITV’s online catch up service ITV Hub.
An insider told The Sun newspaper of the situation: “It’s everyone’s worst nightmare, and something that is taken extremely seriously by all involved.
“Jeremy and the team are very proud of the show and the aftercare which guests receive, and in 14 years on air there has never been an incident like this.
“It’s very saddening, but of course everyone understands that an investigation needs to take place before any more decisions can be taken about the future.”
The Jeremy Kyle Show first aired in 2005 on ITV and has since broadcast more than 3,100 episodes in its near 15 years on air.
Presented by Jeremy Kyle, the tabloid talk show format sees guests attempting to resolve personal issues often relating to relationships, family and addiction.
Alongside members of the public, there have been a number of celebrity specials since its launch.
