Ian Wright left the ‘Hell-evator’ Bushtucker Trial disappointed on I’m A Celebrity 2019 after failing to hit his eight-star goal.
With no vote-off in last night’s episode of the ITV survival show, viewers had one last chance to put a campmate up to a terrifying task.
Ian was stunned to find out he’d been nominated for the job – and was apprehensive about doing it alone.
“When you get the carrot of maybe going home but it turns into a Trial on your own, it kind of shocks you,” he said.
“It’s the first one I’m doing on my own and the problem with that is that I normally have someone to bounce off.”
At the Trial clearing, Ian was confronted by the ‘Hell-evator’ – a lift that would transport him to three floors of a secret bunker.
Ant and Dec explained that he must search each floor, littered with the obligatory jungle critters, to find the crucial stars. Each floor came with its own time limit.
Once Ian was in the lift, which came complete with generic lift music, he was showered in cockroaches.
On the first floor, he had to navigate around snakes while undoing the knots securing the stars.
The footballer managed to free two of them before time expired and he moved on to the second floor, full of toads, rats and spiders.
He mistakenly called the amphibians frogs, with Dec joking: “Don’t call them frogs, they’re toads, they hate that!”
Ian struggled with the knots, and again ran out of time before he could undo all of them.
Having won only five stars, he moved on to the final floor – where a large crocodile was guarding a bathtub.
It helpfully crawled out the way, allowing him to collect the two stars inside.
However, he was unable to untie one in a toilet bowl, and he punched a wall in frustration.
Eventually the final klaxon sounded, and Ian rejoined the presenters, who confirmed he’d won seven stars.
“When I find the person that did those knots!” he exclaimed.
The telly pundit was upset at the result, having set himself a target of eight stars – falling short by just one.
“We will eat, but I’m disappointed,” he admitted.
Nonetheless, the other campmates were delighted to have another majority win.
“He’s thinking about the four stars he didn’t get, not the ones he did,” commented Kate Garraway.
“When he’s feeling down I try and pick him up because when he’s happy the whole camp gets lifted. When he’s down it can have an effect.”
Chatting to Andrew Maxwell, Ian claimed he couldn’t face another Bushtucker Trial.
“He’s done a lot of Trials, the Trials take it out of him,” Andrew observed.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! airs nightly at 9.00pm on ITV. Spin-off Extra Camp immediately follows the main show on ITV2.
