Gary Barlow is reportedly working on a new BBC One talent show.
The Take That star launched Let It Shine this time last year, a new series hunting for a boy band to star in a new musical.
It was Five To Five who won the show, securing a role in Gary’s new stage musical The Band, based on the songs of Take That.
Talks were held for a second series however its understood there were struggles to make the format work again.
“The show was a huge success in many ways but the concept for a second series just wasn’t quite there yet,” a source told The Sun newspaper last year.
Explaining that ‘years of work’ went into the first series, the insider added: “Gary in particular wants to make sure that if it does come back, proper time, effort and ideas have gone into it. There’s a danger of undoing the good work done this year by rushing into another series.”
A spokesperson for the BBC said that “the door is open” for another series but there were no plans for the show to air in 2018.
Instead of a second series of Let It Shine, Gary is said to be working on a new format.
A source said to The Sun this week: “BBC see Gary as their weapon to really dent the shows Simon Cowell produces.
“During and after Let It Shine they were constantly asking if he has any other new concepts which could work.”
They added: “The show ideas they are floating will see Gary working with new talent and imparting his extensive knowledge of the showbiz industry.”
