Former footballer Ian Wright has reportedly been offered a six-figure sum to take part in I’m A Celebrity 2019.
ITV’s fan-favourite survival challenge will be back later this year, and now we have our first major contestant rumour.
According to The Sun, Ian is in ‘advanced’ talks to join the jungle line-up after bosses tempted him with the sizeable pay cheque.
He is apparently eager to sign up after viewers crowned football manager Harry Redknapp the latest King of the Jungle.
The 55-year-old is now checking his diary to see if he can spend three weeks in the Australian outback.
“Ian would be a massive signing for ITV who’ve been keen to get him Down Under for a while,” an insider told the newspaper.
“After watching Harry Redknapp win the last series, Ian has decided he would be up for giving it a whirl.”
The mole added that he would likely struggle with the show’s signature eating challenge.
“Ian’s not afraid of much but has joked to his pals he’ll be useless at the eating tasks because he’s so fussy,” they said.
Ian spent six years at Crystal Palace and seven at Arsenal, while earning 33 caps on the England national team.
He is now a pundit for the BBC’s Match of the Day and other broadcasters, including BT Sport.
Since 2014, every series of I’m A Celebrity has featured a football star.
Former Premier League players Dennis Wise, Wayne Bridge, Kieron Dyer and Jimmy Bullard have all braved the Bushtucker Trials.
None of them managed to reach their finals – although Kieron came close, finishing in 4th place.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! will return to ITV for its nineteenth edition in November.
Ant McPartlin has confirmed he’ll be back presenting alongside Dec Donnelly this year following his temporary break.
