Emma Willis to host series two of The Circle on Channel 4

Emma Willis will host series two of The Circle on Channel 4, it’s been announced.

Confirmed earlier this year, The Circle will return in 2019 after a successful first series last autumn.

And now it’s been revealed that former Big Brother host Emma will host the second series.

She replaces Maya Jama and Alice Levine who presented the first season in 2018.

Emma will front the show’s launch as well as a weekly live show each Friday.

Emma said: “I’m an avid people watcher and fascinated by the positives and negatives of social media. I got hooked on the first series and thought it was a smart format that highlights how we shouldn’t take everything on social media at face value.

“I’m delighted to be part of something that is incredibly relevant and can’t wait to join the team and see how mischievous people are prepared to be for £100,000.”

The Circle is the first reality show where players never meet, instead communicating via a social network, giving them the freedom to be whoever they want.

Contestants live in separate apartments in a single building and play games and chat with each other through a unique voice-activated social media platform, called The Circle. They rate each other frequently, unpopular players are ‘blocked’ and ultimately the most popular player wins a cash prize.

Channel 4 previously teased that the second series will see The Circle become more mischievous increasing the gameplay, drama and jeopardy.

Viewers will also be given greater control and increased interactivity with the game. They will be able to influence how the contestants play – leading to unexpected and surprising consequences…

In the live final of last year’s first series, Alex Hobern won a total prize of £75,000 after taking on the persona of a woman called Kate throughout the series.

The series proved a big hit in the TV ratings as well as logging impressive numbers of online viewers.

On All 4, The Circle was the biggest new original commission launch since 2012, with over 10 million views.

The new series returns later this year.
