Craig Revel Horwood has defended his decision to send Catherine Tyldesley home in Strictly’s latest results.
Sunday’s Strictly Come Dancing elimination saw Mike Bushell and Catherine Tyldesley at risk, with the pair having to dance again for the judges to stay in the competition.
In the results, it was Catherine and her partner Johannes Radebe. who left Strictly Come Dancing 2019 this week after the judges saved Mike for a second week running.
The result caused controversy but Craig – who voted to send home Catherine – defended the outcome.
“You have to remember that it’s the audience at home that are putting them in the bottom two as well,” he told Heart Breakfast. “It’s not just the judges, we have 50% of the vote so I blame the people that aren’t voting. They’ll all whinge online and be abusive and they you ask, ‘Did you vote?’
“[They say] ‘Oh no, I didn’t vote.’ So if you’re that worried about it, vote.”
He continued: “For us, the judges, we have to judge the dance-off only, not what happened previously or what is to come, and you can only judge what you see in that one minute thirty.
“In my opinion, Mike had the cleaner dance. It’s quite simple and you know, if it was another day or if Catherine was doing a Rumba, for instance, against his Tango, then she would have won it.
“But, you know, it’s what happens on the day.”
Meanwhile, Catherine and Johannes appeared on It Takes Two tonight to discuss their exit.
Catherine told Rylan Clark-Neal: “I’m gutted. I kind of thought, hoped that we had a couple of weeks left. I struggled with the Cha Cha, it was evil!”
She added: “I feel like I’ve gone through a divorce and I’ve got Jojo!
“Friendship for life, it’s absolutely phenomenal.”
The remaining ten couples will take to the dancefloor next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 2nd November at 7pm with the results show on Sunday 3rd November at 7.15pm on BBC One
