Coronation Street’s Helen Flanagan set to return to the cobbles

Helen Flanagan has confirmed she’s set to return to Coronation Street.

The actress, who plays Rosie Webster, left the ITV soap last summer to go on maternity leave.

She’s since welcomed her second daughter Delilah and has teased her return to the show – despite now living in Glasgow with partner Scott Sinclair.

“I miss Coronation Street so much, and I definitely am going to go back,” she told ITV’s Lorraine this week. “But it’s just working around my girls.

“Matilda [Helen’s eldest daughter] is at the age where she’s 4 and she’s doing all of her… she needs to be taken to her lessons and what have you.

“And obviously with me living in Scotland, it’s a four-hour drive. And Delilah’s nearly 1. But I just love it so much. I’ve been there since I was 9.”

It was reported this week that bosses were keen for Helen to return to her role following a series of high profile exits.

Lucy Fallon (who plays Bethany Platt), Katie McGlynn (Sinead Tinker) and Faye Brookes (Kate Connor) all announced their departures from the series last week.

“Things are pretty bleak behind the scenes,” a source claimed to The Sun newspaper. “Bosses want to bring joy back, on and off screen. The plan is to bring back one or two high-profile stalwarts who are a hit with older viewers.

“They’re keen for Helen to sign after maternity leave. But producers will not budge on the gruelling schedule, and will continue the shock ‘modern’ storylines, even if they risk alienating older viewers.”

Coronation Street airs on ITV with episodes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
