Celebrity Apprentice 2019 first look teases possible appearance from Cher

Cliffhanger clip sees Omid Djalili try to book his Mamma Mia co-star for an event

The BBC has unveiled a cliffhanger first look at The Celebrity Apprentice 2019 – which sees Omid Djalili try to secure a special appearance from music superstar Cher.

Bosses have revived the celeb spin-off of the business contest after a decade-long break for this year’s Red Nose Day.

As usual it features two teams of famous faces – confirmed earlier this week – competing against each other to raise money for Comic Relief and avoid being fired by Lord Alan Sugar.

But it turns out the biggest name on the show may not be one of the contestants.

A first-look preview clip surfaced online this evening, featuring the boys’ team organising a red-carpet event for a task.

Thanks to his involvement in musical blockbuster ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’, Omid reckons he can secure an A-list guest of honour: Cher.

“Some of you might know that I was in Mamma Mia 2. One of the main stars of that film is Cher,” he explains to his teammates.

A call to Cher’s manager confirms she’s in London, and Omid asks to book her “tomorrow night for five minutes”.

As the boys wait nervously for an answer from the ‘Believe’ singer, Rylan Clark-Neal prepares a backup plan.

“At the moment, I’m getting the Spice Girls jacket on and singing a Spice Girls megamix!” he jokes.

Just when it seems Cher won’t be there, however, she appears to take matters in to her own hands.

“I just heard that Cher, who was going to gently let us down, saying that she wasn’t available, now is trying to get out of a personal engagement to possibly make it,” Omid reports back.

“Now we have a situation where we have an extra act we have to juggle somehow!”

The video ends there, leaving viewers wondering whether or not Cher turns up.

Apprentice chiefs are encouraging social media users to speculate on the outcome with the hashtag #WhereIsCher.

Comic Russell Kane, showbiz presenter Richard Arnold and football manager Sam Allardyce complete the boys’ team.

Meanwhile, the girls’ team features designer Kelly Hoppen, EastEnders actress Tameka Empson and journalist Rachel Johnson.

They’re joined by X Factor judge Ayda Williams and Britain’s Got Talent stalwart Amanda Holden.

We’ll find out if Cher makes it when the Celebrity Apprentice airs on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th March at 9.00pm on BBC One.

The Red Nose Day telethon airs one week later, on Friday 15th March.
