Britain’s Got Talent’s Recorda Boi attempts to make the recorder cool

Recorda Boi attempted to make the recorder cool again on Britain’s Got Talent this weekend.

Away from the main show, on Britain’s Got More Talent we met Ollie, aka Recorda Boi.

He was on the show to introduce the classic instrument to a new generation.

Ollie told the judges: “Many people gave up recorder at Mary Had A Little Lamb but I kept going and got a nickname at school which was recorder boy.”

He went on to perform on his golden recorder to a number of tracks.

Songs given the recorder treatment included Ice Ice Baby and Slim Shady.

However there weren’t any rave reviews from the judges.

Simon Cowell said: “There was a reason why people stopped playing them from the ages of three.”

David Walliams remarked: “You made every song sound worse.”

But Recorda Boi insisted: “I think there’s a real future in recorder”

Unfortunately with nos, Recorda Boi’s future on BGT was over.

You can watch his audition above.

However acts that did impress this weekend included bizarre cake-eating opera singer Sarah Llewellyn to five-piece boy band Made Up North.

Ben Langley and his misheard song lyrics got four yeses as did Micky P Kerr, who performed original comedy songs – but Simon was confused by his ‘bag for life’.

Also through were dancers Tap Attack while Gruffydd Wyn Roberts became the fifth and final golden buzzer act this year, thanks to Amanda Holden.

Britain’s Got More Talent airs Saturday nights on ITV2.

It follows the main series of Britain’s Got Talent 2018 on ITV.

As always, Stephen will be getting to know a whole new host of hilarious unseen contestants in his own unique way and as ever, it’s these acts that make Britain’s Got More Talent such compelling viewing.
