BBC One is heading to Blackpool to explore the world of competitive ballroom dancing in a new one-off special.
For the first time ever, the world of ballroom has agreed to swing its doors open for the Blackpool Dance Festival for Blackpool’s Dance Fever which will air on BBC One and iPlayer this August.
The BBC share: “Prepare to swing your hips, move those feet, and feel the heat… once a year, the best ballroom and Latin dancers from across the globe quickstep their way to Britain’s very own Blackpool, to take part in the most prestigious competition – the Blackpool Dance Festival. For the dance world this is Wimbledon, this is Wembley, this is the Tour de France… it doesn’t get any better.
“For nearly 100 years it has been one of Britain’s best kept secrets. But this time, we are invited to join in.
“Blackpool’s Dance Fever is the behind-the-scenes story of Latin and Ballroom in Blackpool – waltz and all… and a front-row seat to see how Strictly Stars are born.”
Blackpool’s Dance Fever will air on BBC One on Monday, 29 August at 8PM.
The special is being executive produced by Stacey Dooley and made by her production company Little Dooley.
The former Strictly Come Dancing star and TV presenter said: “The minute I was introduced to the extraordinary world of ballroom, and Latin I was hooked! The culture, the passion, the dedication, the anecdotes, the sequins…!
“We are hoping to deliver an insightful, thrilling look into an iconic scene that has until now, felt relatively undiscovered. And I really can’t wait!”
