Ant McPartlin’s ‘year of hell’ explored in new Channel 5 documentary

Ant McPartlin’s ‘year from hell’ is explored in a TV documentary set to air on Channel 5.

The new show will document Ant’s recent personal battles, having spent time in rehab after being charged with drink driving.

The incident followed the announcement that he was divorcing his wife after more than a decade of marriage.

A spokesperson for the upcoming doc told the Daily Star newspaper: “This film offers insight on how Ant’s world collapsed around him and how it feels to have your personal problems played out in front of the nation.”

It will feature input from a number of celebrity faces, such as Kerry Katona and Peter Andre.

Peter wrote in his New! magazine column: “I can’t give too much away because I don’t know what will make the final cut, but it’s basically about the pressures of the industry and the trials and tribulations facing Ant following his drink-driving arrest and rehab stint.”

Also contributing to the new series is Mike Faux, Ant and Dec’s former tour manager.

A spokesperson for Channel 5 said “With Ant’s comeback due to officially go public with the next series of Britain’s Got Talent, the documentary hears from celebrities with similar experiences in the media spotlight and asks if Ant can successfully complete his recovery, reclaim and keep his place in one of the most successful TV partnerships of all time.”

The Comeback of Ant McPartlin airs on Channel 5 at 9PM on Friday, April 12. You’ll be able to watch it online via My5.tv.

Ant recently returned to film auditions for Britain’s Got Talent after taking a year out from TV work.

He said on stage of the London Palladium earlier this year: “Hello everyone. Oh god, I’m really really emotional now. I’ve missed you all. As for you (pointing at Dec) I’ve missed you.

“Thank you very much, what a warm welcome. What a great show to come back to, I’m thrilled, I’m over the moon. Shall we move on before I cry?”

Simon Cowell said: “Ant welcome back. We missed you; it wasn’t the same. I mean even though Dec was brilliant, it still wasn’t the same. It would be like me not being with David, I would be happy, but not happy – if that makes sense.

“So on behalf of all of us, welcome back, we’re family. (Turns to audience) You are family!”
