Channel 4 has confirmed the start date for The £100k Drop, its new daytime version of hit gameshow The Million Pound Drop.
Last year it was revealed that the big-money format would be rebooted for an afternoon timeslot.
Now, over three years since the Drop was last on our screens, we finally know it will be back.
The £100k Drop begins on Monday 7th May on Channel 4, airing every weekday at 4.00pm.
One of C4’s boldest daytime commissions in recent years, bosses will no doubt be hoping it proves a success.
However, the scheduling means it’ll be up against ITV’s ever-popular Tipping Point, which usually has around 2million viewers.
Davina McCall is back to present the show, which, as its name suggests, now has a £100,000 top prize.
Although that’s just a tenth of original jackpot, it’s still one of the biggest prizes available in daytime telly.
Otherwise, the game remains exactly the same. Executive producer Richard Hague says: “The £100k Drop has all of the original format’s nail-biting tension, genuine jeopardy and excitement.”
Playing in pairs, contestants start with £100,000 in real cash, split in to 40 bundles of £2,500.
For each question, they must spread all of their money across trapdoors representing possible answers.
Money they place on the correct answer is safe – but anything on the wrong answers will fall through the trapdoors and out of the game.
Whatever they have left after seven rounds – including an all-or-nothing final question – is theirs to keep.
It is unclear whether the show’s pioneering online game, which enabled viewers to play along in real time, will also return.
C4 has ordered 60 episodes of The £100k Drop, but hasn’t confirmed whether they’ll air as one series or be split in to multiple runs.
